In the thick of December, I found my attention being captured by the peculiar nature of seedpods. I think winter has a lesser-appreciated beauty that often goes unnoticed. We marvel at snow-covered trees and landscapes. But what about the little things? Seedpods are so particular. They generally lack vibrant color and have an understated, unnoticed beauty to them. They have odd holes or spikes or lumps.

A collection of seedpods and specimen gathered from a neighborhood walk in December.

They have had me reflecting on the importance of hibernation; the importance of taking time to restore and prepare for new life to spring forward. How much energy and time is needed to nurture these new seeds.

I hope you all have been able to take time to restore and nurture as winter comes to a close. I know I am excited to start planting new seeds as spring comes around.
